About The Fold
Folding is a means of opening. One can invite others “into the fold.” A transition between inside and exterior, folds in space and time anticipate a process of becoming. The act of folding twists and weaves surface.
FOLD is an initiative of Design Talks (d.talks), a grassroots organization based in Calgary, Canada. This publication is an open forum for public conversation that seeks to expand ideas about the built environment. It’s a means to connect more deeply with the city and to thoughtfully explore design’s responsibility.
Approaching design on many levels, FOLD features original writing. It might be a deep dive into an architectural feature or a planning policy. You will also find book recommendations and graphic essays pointing a fresh lens from which to reflect upon our physical environment. And terminology is defined from multiple points of view.
Replete with multiple interpretations, we welcome you to the FOLD.
